The Importance of Scale

KEY POINT One of the most important considerations in any landscape ecological investigation or landscape structural analysis is

  1. to explicitly define the scale of the investigation or analysis,

  2. to describe any observed patterns or relationships relative to the scale of the investigation,

  3. and to be especially cautious when attempting to compare landscapes measured at different scales.
